“Workshop on Optical Communications" - December 18-22, 2023
AOC Testbed project, funded by Department of Telecommunications, Government of
Inda conducted a “Workshop on Optical Communications," during December 18-22, 2023 at Raman Hall, IITM Research Park, Chennai. for a diverse audience, including
students, researchers, and graduates with backgrounds in both engineering and
Physics disciplines. The main objective of this initiative was to introduce essential skill
sets for working in the optical communication domain. The program had a good
percentage of hands-on sessions and lab visits with faculty from academics and
industry covering OEMs and service providers. It was attended by 103 students from
21 colleges across 13 cities with a winning mix of 32% female students. The outreach
program included one participant from the Union Territory of Puducherry (Pondicherry
University) and one participant from a private Malaysian university (Universiti Teknologi
PETRONAS). The outreach initiative drew participation from five states across the
country.
The sessions were delivered by Prof.Deepa Venkitesh, IITM, Dr. Arvind Mishra, Sterlite
Technologies Limited, Dr. Abhijit Mitra - IIIT Delhi, Mr. Krishna Kumar – SASMOS, Mr.
N. Saravanan - Tata Communications, Mr.T.V. Chalapathi Rao - Orange Business
Services, Mr. S. Chandrasekhar - Tata Communications, Ms. G. Amutha: EE Dept - IIT
Madras, Mr. Kesavan Krishnan, Ms. Sampoornam, Mr. Raviteja, Mr. Lakshman from
Pravartak, Mr. Sameer Ahmad Mir and Mr.Sreeraj from AOC Test bed Project. The
consolidated feedback for all the sessions was very good.
